What can I expect?

Exercise with PURPOSE led by qualified instructors in a SAFE and FRIENDLY environment at our dedicated kung fu school in Romiley, Stockport (Green Lane, just past Aldi). We will train the basics of the Splashing Hands Boxing kung fu system through highly practical and well-established training methods. Training is tailored to your level of experience and we love to engage with all levels - from complete beginners (you have to start somewhere!) through to experienced martial artists.

You will get a good overall workout and learn the building blocks of the system: conditioning exercises, blocking, striking and kicking techniques, footwork, and how to combine the building blocks together into combinations and self-defence applications. We will drill these techniques individually ‘on the square’ and using pad work exercises from the Hatton Academy syllabus.

The sessions are Monday evenings throughout November 2025. To support younger newcomers to the school we are running two sessions each week - one for 16-21 year-olds from 7:30-8:30pm, and one for all ages (16+) from 8:30-9:30pm. All sessions are mixed and people are only partnered with people they are comfortable with.

What will I NOT get?

Contracts, Fees or bruises! The only commitment and investment made is by you, for YOU. If you do continue training after November then session fees are minimal, there are discounted rates available, and it is run on a Pay-As-You-Train basis, - we know life can be busy and we believe you shouldn’t pay for training you don’t receive.

Light contact self-defence applications are only practiced by more experienced students, beginners will focus on learning the techniques first through individual practice and using pads and punch bags. Only once you are confident and safe will you progress to light contact applications, with close supervision (and even then - no bruises!).

Nothing is really for free though is it? What’s the catch?

No catch! We are a non-profit martial arts school run by instructors with decades of experience and a passion for sharing these fantastic Chinese martial arts with students of all experience levels and backgrounds. We are looking to grow local participation in our weekly class of Splashing Hands Boxing (Jian Shou Chuan) and to help engage the local community we figured the best way is to invite people to try it out for free and without strings attached.

Which styles are being offered for free in November 2025?

The free month of training is specific to the Splashing Hands Boxing (Jian Shou Chaun) style. However all the styles taught at the Little Nine Heaven UK school in Romiley offer a FREE taster session all year round - check out the different classes we offer.

Do I have to register for all the November sessions?

You can register for as many as you like! And if you want to attend a single session before committing to the rest then that is fine, subject to availability. Email Sifu Ben to register your interest: ben@littlenineheaven.co.uk or via our Contact Form or text 07469408248.

What clothing and equipment do I need?

Comfortable loose clothing and sports trainers are recommended, we always train with footwear on due to the roots of the system being a street fighting style. You can bring your own gloves and pads if you have them, otherwise we have a good stock of newly purchased training gloves and pads.

Who runs the sessions?

Main instructor is Sifu Ben Norbury, he is an experienced black belt and has been running classes and seminars from our Stockport school since 2020. He is fully insured and qualified to teach and has supplemental qualifications from the Hatton Academy (Advanced Boxing Pad-work for Fitness) and the British Council for Chinese Martial Arts (Physical Conditioning; Sports Psychology; Coaching).
